'dyNASTY' politics..
BJP's move of giving assembly tickets to Poonam Mahajan (daughter of Late Promod Mahajan), Pankaja Palave (daughter of Gopinath Munde) and Madhusudhan Khendre (son-in-law of Gopinath Munde's brother) was very much criticised and publicised by the media...
Even some airy.. reports were floated that there was 'dissidence' among cadres.. because of is move.. within BJP
(Media selectively forgot.. the fact of BJP denying ticket to Poonam Mahajan from Mumbai North East... when likes of Priya Dutt and Milind Deora are fielded by Congress in nieghbouring constituencies.. I'm not sure why this debate was not picked up... during General Elections 2009)
However... the 'trial' against 'dynasty' politics... fizzled out.....barring a heated debate on President's son nomination by Congress party.... which has altogether... different angle (this issue should be more discussed for demoting the consitutional posts/offices for personal/political favours..). There is no tirade/ trial being carried out on this topic..on developments over last one week..! Other than reporting small bits of 'news' pertaining to this topic, there is no heat..!
I'm writing this blog for people to understand the topic.. with little more... thought process...
First, let me re-cap some developments/ news items presented in the last one week.. related to Dynasty politics.. across various states..after the media trial.. for BJP's 'dynasty politics'
Maharashtra:
Sticking to its PRINCIPLES.. Congress has made sincere effort to damage/ abuse the DEMOCRACY... by fielding the son of the President of India..! (more than Dynasty.. I think one needs to denounce.. the way office of President, CEC, Chief Justice of India, CBI etc.. were being abused..)
Not to seprately mention, sons/ daughters of various Congress leaders like Vilas Rao Deshmukh, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Chhagan Bujbal etc.
Haryana:
Media.. also forgot to highlight the dynasty trend in other states... although there is a mere mention of this news.. titled as.. 'the battle of the Lals' in Haryana
Devi Lal, Bhajan Lal and Bansi Lal families are fighting it out representing Congress, Haryana Jan-hith Congress and INLD.
Andhra Pradesh:
After the demise of YSR, ex-CM of Andhra Pradesh. The dynasty politics.. have taken the ugliest (true) color... Tfamilies of breavered of all those people who died because of various causes at various places across AP.. were approached and bribed ..to claim that the death of near/ dear ones.. was due to 'shock' and 'pain' of sudden death of their..'beloved' leader...!! Media reported more than 100 shock deaths happening... across AP.. Only to be busted later to be faked... for money... The Party is struggling to settle the challenge thrown by side-effects of the dynasty/ 'dead-body' politics...!! It is hurting the administration and the common man in the state !!
I think one should give thought.. to this.. carefully!!
Why is this sudden lul after the spirited trial on BJP for sinning ..'dynasty' politics??? Why there is no topic.. on FACE THE NATION of Sagarika.. Or the BUCK STOPs HERE of Barkha.. ?? May be we should think why such stories were not carried out during General Elections 2009..!
I'm wondering.... Even if media would want to highlight these stories.. what will the .. title.. be...."Congress's Dynasty politics" ?? I think this will sound absurd.. to everyone.. as there is nothing 'catchy' in this... there is nothing 'sensational' in this.. there is nothing 'new' in this... !!
May be yes.... this is the reason.. why even media is not inerested.. !!
I just want my readers to ponder on one aspect... w.r.t this topic.. What exactly.. is the dy'nasty' politics..??? How is it affecting us????
A) From the perspective of the Party... It should be able to bring some identity to it... and thereby attract votes...! (Like NTR family/dynasty is used in Andhra to pull votes for TDP, Similarly, Nehru descendants/family/dynasty is used to pull votes for Congress..., Thackrey family/dynasty is used in Maharashtra to pull votes for Shiv-sena.. etc..)
B) From the perspective of leaders.. it gives them pernnial 'employment'.. may be 'source of wealth-creation'
Both these perspectives.. have different implications.. on us...
A...hurts entire nation/ people and the democracy...
Perspective A, leaves no scope for new entrants into the system with fresh/ independent thoughts... ! He/ She have to always 'prove' his/her loyalty to a dynasty/ family for being able to exist and work.. in the set-up!!
Perspective B... showcases selfish attitude of the leader .. and will expose him/her.. if he is not worth.. his 'ticket'/'seat'...
Although both are bad to us... we will have primary choice.. to either elect/ defeat.. any candidate.. while addressing perspective B.
However, for the perspective A is often thurst on us.. We electorate will have very limited choice..! As often, A is not seen as central poll issue... and hence.. this takes the back-seat..!
Ideally, we should have a system which should be de-void of any bias as far as... the family connections.. are concerned.. !!
But, this is idealistic... We have seen that even the ex-US president.. and current US State Secretary have leveraged on their family connections.. in their political careers..!!
The point in such cases is that .. it is very minimal and never.. affected the agenda for the politics of the country..!
Now.. with this perspective.. if one analyses the state of affairs in Indian politics...!!
Needless to say...that Congress tops.. the list.. as it has Nehru descendants.. dutifully...fulfilling both the perspectives. Also, the second-rung leadership... nurtures this.. as it help them to stay in power..(atleast in the fringes)!!

(I've not mentioned other parties like Shiv-sena / TDP/ RJD/ BJD/ INLD/ DMK/SAD/ NC etc.. because all of them.. or either.. regional parties.. (or) parties that identify with ideology more than family.. TDP - Telugu pride, SS- Marathi pride, SAD - Sikh pride etc.. DMK/ INLD are all regional parties..! However, Congress alone stands out.....!!)
In the hindsight.. yes... may be this is applicable to any party which uses a family to identify itself... why single out Congress!! But lets take its example..!!
Congress..needs 'Gandhi' word.... for running its party..! Today it is Sonia... tomorrow it has to be Rahul... then may be Priyanka Gandhi (not Vadhra..??) . Intrestingly, Robert Vadhra.. also seemed to have changed his name to Robert Vadhra Gandhi.. so that it would be helpfull in future..!!! (the real Gandhi's had gone.. and forgotten... the fake Gandhi's are ruling us.. by exploiting the value of brand GANDHI)!!
If one looks the way the senior leaders of the Party responded, after a rebel section damaged a banner carrying the picture of Sonia in Khammam (AP), by organising a religious ceremony.. to re-install the photo of Sonia.... one certainly needs to think ... Do we deserve this drama ??
Why is Sonia demanding and enjoying such 'sycophancy'... ??? Is it good for the country??? Is it good for Democracy??? Why cant she come-out and ask leaders to stop.. stoopong to such low levels..??? Why?? Does doing such thing... weakens the party??? Or her position??? I think we need to think on this aspect... and reflect on our thoughts.. to understand what exactly.. is Dynasty politics???
As a contrast to this behaviour...the instance of MODI's modesty.. comes in my mind..
When media credited MODI.. for the BJP's Gujarat Assembly elections win!! .. by saying.. it is MODI's win.. and not BJPs..!! Modi.. responded with tears in his eyes.. "how can a son be ever greater than his mother..???" He instead credited the victory to the Party, the Ideology and the Cadre!! Thereby, putting an end to sycophancy...!!
Putting aside our bias for (or) against MODI... aside for a second.... Everyone of us..needs to think .. whether our politicians need such.. philosophy? We need to think whether this behaviour will curb.. sycophancy/ dy'nasty' politics.. and strengthen ideology based politics.. which is healthy for running Democracy..!!!

NDTV / CNN-IBN stories, romanticising Naxalism
Naxalism in India is a complex animal. The current blog will analyse certain facets.. of this revolutionary/political/communal/ facist/ terrorist/ deprived-people's/foreign funded .... organisation.
(I've defined it using various adjectives... because I think it has all these faces..)
Although the up-surge of the movment initially was due to inherent flaws in the our Democracy... it later was used/ abused and taken advantage of by various individuals/ organisations/ countries/ political parties... at various points of times.. across various places...
Naxal movement is the manifestation of communist philosophy of social justice and equality to all... it talks about an egalitarian society....which is classless, stateless with common ownership and control of the means of production and property..
The plight of the small farmer caught in the debt trap laid by the zamindars/ landlords... who turns him and his all future generations into virtually bonded labour is the common sight of oppressed/ suffering class...... (i vividly remember one of Munshi Premchand's short story... depicting the plight of small farmer.. who turns to become a bonded labour in his own farm.. for taking a small debt...) The illiteracy of... these oppressed class.. has added more.. weight to their already existing problems...
I should mention here... one genuine claim of NAXALs...
"On one hand.. we have.. small-time farmers... with 1-2 acres of rain-fed land.. and will only be able to realise his dream of one-time meal a day... if there is a good crop..... !! and on other hand, We have land-lords.. enjoying... 1000's of acres of irrigated land..with all Government subsidies (for Water, Power, Fertlizers and even Income Tax)!!
IS THIS JUSTICE??? If not, then what is the meaning of we getting FREEDOM.. are 'Progressing' on the path of 'development'??
To fight this injustice... met to small / poor farmers..for ..over decades of exploitation... NAXALISM has taken birth.. !! Naxalism had provided instant justice.. for scores of these expolited lot... and thus enjoyed.. unparalleled support... during its hey days!!
The movement is aimed for restoring all rights & freedom to these small/poor farmers and Labourers.... it is about the bringing back equality in society.. it is about bringing equality..which is otherwise, non-existent due to flawed.. working of our democracy system...!!
These problems existed all through-out India and unfortunately are still existing in many parts of the country even today... leaving aside.. the reasons.. for these problems a 'Naxalist' would want to identify the cause of his genesis...as NAXAL to these problems..
However...I think..the sympathy.. thay enjoied at the start of their movement.... is no longer seen these days?? ...
Why???
Is it because... Naxals are failing to identify themselves with the problems of the people for whom they are fighting for..??
Are the people for whom they are undertaking all the suffering... are being left-out of the various.. development paths.. today.. (atleast on paper) available for poor??
Or... have they diluted their basic agenda.. by turning out to be mere.. activists.. carrying out decisions of central body.. which is driven by various motivation.. not related to the plight of the poor farmer/ labour in the remote villages of India??
The irony is that.. today... an average Indian.. do not understand and cannot comprehend the activities.. of this organisation...! On one-side... it is against.. development... reaching villages... and on the other hand.. they boast of helping small/poor farmers... There are instances.. where these extremists enjoy unparallel support from the local villagers... and there are also instances... where these people are chased and set-on fire by the villagers...
Now, how can anyone understand.. these extreme reactions..?? It only solidfies my thesis on this organisation.. that too many people.. pulled it in too many directions...
Now, interesting question is who commits the crime..?? Is it the cadre..or their leaders ...
I say it is Leadership more than the Cadre...
Cadre.. just carries out the orders passed on to them by the leadership... they.. languish in forests... without proper food/ healthcare and lifestyle (freedom).. They are giving their lifetime service for the organisation without understanding.. what their acts... mean to the world around them..! May be they are blinded by the plight.. and difficulties they are going through!!
However, Politburo/ Leadership is completely responsible for the mess they have created and the murders/ genocides.. they've perpetrated.... On one hand.. they themselves.. do not have clarity of dis-associated acts.. that are happening all around.. and on other hand.. they seem to be acting under the influence of their political bosses.. nationally and internationally...
The likes of Khobad Ghandy.. who are so well educated... are responsible for this dilemma.. of this movement...This is the reason I said .. at the start that it is pulled in tooo many directions by too many people at various places at various times....I think the leadership should be prosecuted.. as per the Law of the Land... for disorienting the Cadre.. and killing thousands.. of people... in a pre-planned.. manner!!
Today, the 'socio-economic justice' got replaced by the POLITICS..., the Cadre of the movement is being expolited for fulfilling state-level, national level (CPM/ CPI) and international level (China/ Nepal, Missionaries) political agendas of various organisations and Individuals.. The movement.. always need fresh blood/ ignorant activisits .. who foloow the instructions.. without complicated questions.....at lowest level... for this they paint their message with 'peoples problem' all the time... They use the 'under-development' as a reason for recruiting this talent... and also uses it effectively.. to retain their... I fail to understand.. how would... killing of Swami Laxmiananda Saraswati.. (an 80+ year old aged.. seer) in orissa.. and cutting his mortal remains.. into pieces.. justifies.. the ideology of any school of thought under the sun...(unless it is contract killing arrangement by missionaries.. for whom.. this old man.. turned out to be a thorn in thier flesh.. as he is re-converting the christian converts)
I fail to understand .. how would.. killing of Nandaraj Goud and Chandra Reddy... (Youth BJP activist and an ABVP - Osmania University student activist..respectively) in cold blood.. justifies.. any ideology.. unless it is political murder for eleminating the up-comming leaders...
I cannot number...serveral BJP activists/leaders.. who were murdered in various states...(one of the reason why BJP is weak in AP) There is a news item that even today... sons of the BJP MP were attacked..in BASTAR, Chattisgarh.

Naxals have incentive to keep a region backward.... Although the up-surge of the movment initially was due to inherent flaws in the our Democracy... it later was used/ abused and taken advantage of by various individuals/ organisations/ countries/ political parties... at various points of times.. across various places...
Naxal movement is the manifestation of communist philosophy of social justice and equality to all... it talks about an egalitarian society....which is classless, stateless with common ownership and control of the means of production and property..
The plight of the small farmer caught in the debt trap laid by the zamindars/ landlords... who turns him and his all future generations into virtually bonded labour is the common sight of oppressed/ suffering class...... (i vividly remember one of Munshi Premchand's short story... depicting the plight of small farmer.. who turns to become a bonded labour in his own farm.. for taking a small debt...) The illiteracy of... these oppressed class.. has added more.. weight to their already existing problems...
I should mention here... one genuine claim of NAXALs...
"On one hand.. we have.. small-time farmers... with 1-2 acres of rain-fed land.. and will only be able to realise his dream of one-time meal a day... if there is a good crop..... !! and on other hand, We have land-lords.. enjoying... 1000's of acres of irrigated land..with all Government subsidies (for Water, Power, Fertlizers and even Income Tax)!!
IS THIS JUSTICE??? If not, then what is the meaning of we getting FREEDOM.. are 'Progressing' on the path of 'development'??

There are instances.. where these extremists enjoy unparallel support from the local villagers... and there are also instances... where these people are chased and set-on fire by the villagers...
Now, how can anyone understand.. these extreme reactions..?? It only solidfies my thesis on this organisation.. that too many people.. pulled it in too many directions...
Now, interesting question is who commits the crime..?? Is it the cadre..or their leaders ...

Cadre.. just carries out the orders passed on to them by the leadership... they.. languish in forests... without proper food/ healthcare and lifestyle (freedom).. NDTV - >> "BJP's Dynasty politics"
NDTV has carried out a story yesterday (21 September 2009) that BJP which claims to be a party with difference, with an inherent dispprovement to family-centric politics.. is now fielding 3 candidates from Gopinath Munde family..
I categorise this a biased reporting against BJP based on the following reasoning....

1) It is not the first-time that BJP is fielding son/ daughter of a political leader in elections. In the recently concluded polls. BJP had fielded Varun Gandhi (son of Maneka Gandhi), Manvendra Singh (son of Jaswant Singh), Dushyanth Singh(son of Vasundhare Raje) and son of BS Yeddyurappa (Karnataka CM) etc. If this trend is something, which is not new then why was it occupying the headlines in a national news channell (If not ..to dilute the stance of BJP's philosophy of anti-dynastic/ family-centric politics thereby justifying the Gandhi-brand of politics in India)
2) Yes, BJP's stance is clearly against dynasty and family politics.. that is the reason why it has never allowed the party affairs to get hijacked by the presence of family members.. of any particular leader/ leaders!
Please analyse this statement on the backdrop of these facts....
- BJP is fighting the Maharashtra elections ..as second party to Shiv Sena which is contesting bulk of the seats (BJP is contest only 119 out of 288 seats, while SS is contesting 169 seats).
- Although, Gopinath Munde is a senior BJP leader in Maharashtra , has very limited say in party affairs.. where Nitin Gadkari, the Party President and has the final call.
- BJP has denied ticket to Poonam Mahajan from Mumbai NE and has given it to Kirit Somaiyya (a loyal BJP activist) during recently concluded General Elections 2009.
- Poonam Mahajan was given ticket only from an assembly constituency.. and is not given any office-bearer position in the Party.
- Tickets are always given in BJP on winnability factor. BJP admitted this long back.. that it is against the Dynasty politics.. but in Indian politics Dynasty has become.. so ingrained in the system that almost all the Political Parties are either family/ dynasty/ individual centric (Congress, RJD, DMK, Akali Dal, Shiv Sena, TDP, JD(S), NC, SP, BSP, TC, AIADMK etc) ..
- Although their might be instances of leaders kith & kin getting party tickets.. BJP has always maintained a leadership ( at Central, State and Municipality/ District levels) which is not family/ dynasty centric..
I ask NDTV......... Is this not an exercise for pushing BJP on backfoot....and condoning the Congress/ UPA brand of politics ...which is completely a family/dynasty centric party??
3) Who can forget that the ruling combine has fielded numerous.. candidates.. who belonged to political dynasty... (Sachin Pilot, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Priya Dutt, Milind Deora, Jatin Prasada, Supriya Sule, Azhagiri, Kanimozi and YS Jaganmohan Reddy etc.)... infact if one start to count.. the list will be endless..!!
4) Interestingly.. the dynasty system is so well nurtured that... they all owe their loyalty and aggelience to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi...! Irrespective of how qualified and learned Sachin Pilot is... he will never get opportunity to rule the Congress.. He will always have to work under.. Rahul Gandhi..!!
Recently, after the demise of the YS Rajashekar Reddy in AP, we have seen.. the how the local Congress leadership had taken-up the bhajan activity of YS Jaganmohan Reddy (3 month old in politics) to be the next CM...
The state has witnessed .. 60-70 yrs old experienced congress leaders.. stooping down.. YS Jagan..who is completely out of touch with AP politics (till May 2009, he was based out of Bengaluru managing various businesses...his father and he started in last five years.. Before which he used to do real-estate dispute settlements in Bengaluru.. also he is accused of involving in plotting the killings of YSR's political rivals..) to prove their loyalty to YS Jagan.. Who in turn is stoooping to prove his loyalty to Sonia Gandhi.. and Rahul Gandhi..!!
I ask NDTV......Why such behavior of Congress is not picked up for public debate... Instead.. a trivial cause of Gopinath Munde family getting 3 assembly tickets.. made into headlines and debate topic?
5) One should note that ..the count of the Gopinath Munde family members.. include Poonam Mahajan ...daughter of BJP's Late Shri. Pramod Mahajan.
Also, as mentioned earlier...NDTV conveniently forgot that the same Poonam Mahajan was denied BJP ticket from Mumbai North-East during 2009 General Elections.. even after pressing demand...!
I dont think it needs any serious thought process to understand the difference between.. what BJP is made off.. and what Congress is made off... as far as the Dynasty Politics are concerned...! So, NDTV.. please shun your vicious campaign against BJP..!! I know that you are doing your bit... for the up-coming Maharashtra Elections.. for pleasing your political boss..!! But, please be aware of your public image as well...!! NDTV is no more than.. a ideologically, ethically and intellectually sold out entity... doing greatest dis-service to the nation...in the name of journalism!!
By generalising this topic NDTV (and its news reader, Nidhi Razdan) is blatantly and shame-lessly attempting to bring some scantity.. to the Congress/ Gandhi brand of family politics..!! The logic is simple.. if you have an ugly line... to be made beautiful w/o touching it.... you just need to draw another 'long-ugly' line beside it.. so that people will condone the distressed state of affairs.. of Congresses brand of Family politics..!
